California King Salmon Press Release April 30, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The wait is over! Fresh, wild-caught California King Salmon to start arriving beginning this weekend

Despite some season restrictions, consumers can still expect to find salmon locally

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (April 30, 2022) – Only available during the summer months, fresh, wild-caught California King salmon will soon be here to enjoy, just in time for Mother’s Day celebrations and beyond. Officially kicking off this Sunday May 1, insiders are expecting a decent catch despite some season restrictions due to continued conservation efforts.

“There is a lot of excitement buzzing right now in anticipation for Sunday,” said Hans Haveman, California Salmon Council member and owner of H&H Fresh Fish in Santa Cruz. “Of course it’s always a wait-and-see situation depending on weather and other things, but there should definitely be salmon to enjoy as soon as this weekend and more available locally shortly after that.”

Commercial fishing will commense in the Monterey Bay area this Sunday and then later in the season in the San Francisco and Fort Bragg areas. But despite the atypical season, there should still be plenty of Chinook salmon available for foodies to enjoy this summer.

Wild-caught, California King salmon can be found at select grocery stores, fish markets, fine restaurants, farmers markets and even direct from fisherman, right off on the dock. Renowned for their firm texture, robust flavor and for containing higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids than other salmon varieties, California’s King salmon also provides consumers with a sustainable, responsible option.
